Community Organizing

There are known knowns; there are things we know that we know.  There are known unknowns; that is to say, there are things that we now know we don’t know.  But there are also unknown unknowns – there are things we do not know we don’t know.

United States Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld

Hey Kids!

You know, a lot of people made a lot of fun of Rumsfeld for saying that, but since this quote almost perfectly encapsulates the core tenet in my personal philosophy of life, I find this to possibly be the most profound thing that I have ever heard a politician say.  All that is required is to take it in other than a political context and then completely ignore the source and completely ignore that source’s agenda i.e. justifying the Outrage of Iraq and justifying torture and murder and spying and other various nefarious police state tactics…

…just ignore all of that and Rumsfeld possibly becomes one of the most profound political philosophers in history!

Thunderbolt Props

I wish to start out this week’s Thunderbolt by giving serious props to the medical cannabis folks!

Hip, hip, hooray!

The current campaign by the State of Washington to seize monopoly control of our buds was attempting to throw the medical cannabis people under the bus and make them pay full retail with very full tax for their medicine along with all us ‘recreational’ folks who only smoke pot because we like it rather than because it is medicine that is vital to us.  (I could make an argument that it is vital for my creative processes to function at full ability — but maybe another time.)  (And by the way, I fully intend to continue purchasing my buds from my friends, thank you.)

The new government bud-mafia wanted to make it illegal for the medical cannabis people to continue growing their own medicine and they wanted to criminalize their bud growing cooperatives.  They were obviously hot to trot to pass this legislation and it appeared to be on the fast track to passage until — it would appear — that it was stopped in its tracks by the medical cannabis people, who mounted a major lobbying blitz at the last minute and — it would appear — they have at least temporarily stopped this outrage.

Score another one for the good guys!  Yippee!

See?  When we get together we can get things done.

NSA Alert

The goal of the NSA is to end all privacy for everyone in the world

                        —Glen Greenwald

The NSA has a plan to infect millions of computers with malware.  Surprise, surprise.

One of the methods the NSA is using to covertly infect targets with these malware ‘implants’is to pretend that they are a Facebook server.

Here is the report from The Intercept:

Reverse Psychology

I just listened to an interview with Shane Bauer, one of the three American hikers that the Iranians kidnapped for two years as a political hostage.  He told a very interesting story that greatly demonstrates the differences in worldview experienced by Americans and Iranians — and in addition it also illustrates some of the shortcomings in the ‘tit for tat’ philosophy of human relations…

When first arrested, Mr. Bauer expressed outrage over the lack of charges or legal proceedings.  The guards simply asked what about Guantanamo?  What was good for the goose was evidently good for the gander, or whatever the equivalent Iranian metaphor might be.

Then, Mr. Bauer figured out how to use this to advantage:  Once he figured out that due to his status as a high value political detainee then he was not going to be subject to any serious physical abuse himself, occasionally when the guards were being exceptionally brutal to someone else then Mr. Bauer would ask them, “What are you doing?  Is this Guantanamo or something?”

The comparison to Guantanamo — from an American — so embarrassed the guards that they would often stop whatever it was that they were doing.

So remember:  If you are being oppressed by a Republican ask them, “What are you doing?  Are you a Democrat or something?”

And if you are being oppressed by a Democrat ask them, “What are you doing?  Are you a Republican or something?”

Public Relations Coup of the Century

Sociopaths are often charismatic good looking and charming people.  Many of us become profoundly upset upon learning that someone we know and like is actually a sociopath because it tends to destroy trust in our own ability to spot danger.  I usually have very good radar for such people — but the really good ones can even get by me.  I learned this from one of my daughter’s ex-boyfriends.  I thought the guy was great.  My complete failure to recognize the danger there cost both me and my daughter a lot of money — and it cost my daughter a lot more than that.

This aspect of sociopaths destroying your ability to trust yourself is probably even more problematic when taken to the societal level and when speaking of a national leader.  A lot of people invest a lot of money energy heart and soul into getting these people elected and they are thus very reluctant to admit that they were completely taken in.

Not very long ago at all no one would have ever thought in a million years that a president would ever be able to get away with claiming the right to assassinate US citizens without due process, repealing habeas corpus, destroying the economy, launching wars and coups like they’re going out of style, murdering hundreds of women and children, and intensifying unconstitutional surveillance on every man, woman and child in the United States…

…without inciting millions of enraged Americans to grab their torches and pitchforks and head to Washington.

I don’t know where in hell they found Barack Obama, but from the ruling class’s perspective he is like the Ultimate Cosmic House Boy.  He has done more to promote the agenda of the oligarchs and entrench their unassailable power over our government, our economy, and our media than any other politician in history.

Obama is getting away with all the stuff that George Bush could never have even dreamed of doing because — ironically —the left would have never let Bush get away with it.

Obama completely destroyed this opposition.  He can get away with almost anything because his mere appearance profoundly confuses and completely disarms the left.  For that reason Obama is ten times as dangerous as George Bush could ever have dreamed of being.  Obama controls the slaves not with a whip, but with deep charm, innate intelligence, and an award-winning smile.  With the election of Barack Obama, almost all opposition to fascism, war mongering, and the trashing of civil liberties ceased.  The left so hated Bush that they never really looked at Obama.  They never scrutinized what he was actually saying and doing — and most importantly, they never expressed concerns over who was financing his campaign.

University of California

Goldman Sachs

Harvard University

Microsoft Corp

JPMorgan Chase & Co

Google Inc

Citigroup Inc

So his campaign was funded by Wall Street and by academics.  (I am thinking the academics wanted some of that military research moola.)

Thus, while my daughter’s ex-boyfriend fooled me, I pegged Obama from the get-go.  Since is always the first place I look when researching a politician and since I was closely scrutinizing what Obama was doing rather than what he was saying, I saw what was coming in 2007 and I tried to warn people.  In response to my warnings I was called, amongst many other family-unfriendly adjectives that I won’t repeat here, the following things:  A racist, a Koch brother’s plant, a troll, a worm, a mole, (no one ever called me a ‘rat’ though) and many many other highly uncomplimentary things.  So many people got so seriously upset with me that I finally just shut up about it.

Here is the looking glass they have managed to impose betwixt Americans and reality:  Obama still enjoys significant support amongst the left even though he is the very personification of nearly every policy that the left claims to hate.  He has expanded the War Machine, he has vastly increased drone attacks, he has not closed Gitmo, he is imposing austerity under the guise of ‘sequestration’ and ‘government shut-down’ and so on, and he is slashing funding to social programs and has said that Social Security is “on the table”.  He is claiming legal power to execute people without a trial or presenting evidence.  He has made Wall Street completely immune to prosecution for thoroughly heinous crimes but he throws anyone who exposes these crimes into prison.  He has expanded indefinite detention.  He has expanded executive privilege.  He has expanded the mass-murder of innocent civilians.

Yet many on the left still place him upon a pedestal.  While his approval ratings have plummeted, the left still seems maddeningly blind to the fact that — excluding the social issues that Wall Street doesn’t care about — Obama has not only carried on with every one of the vilest of Bush’s policies that the left so hated and that they screamed about so loudly and vociferously whilst Bush was doing it, but Obama has now greatly expanded every single one of them.  It would appear that fascism is totally cool with the left as long as a charismatic and charming Democrat is doing it rather than George Bush.

Obama has proven that while you can’t fool all the people all the time, you can fool enough of them to accomplish Wall Street’s agenda and still enjoy leftist support.  Now the left is looking at Hillary Clinton, i.e. more business as usual.  I am speechless.

Obama is now pushing some social justice issues — minimum wage, reforming federal criminal sentencing guidelines, and so forth — but I am thinking that this is being done so as to not completely destroy the credibility of the Democratic Party.  They still need to maintain the fiction that the Democratic Party represents working people so that the unwashed masses don’t take to the streets.  I am pretty sure in the next national election that Americans — who have been transformed by the media into brainwashed zombies that seem to have no memory — will continue their inexorable journey down the chute toward the slaughterhouse by electing Republicans to take over the Senate and the White House in the next election.

Good.  Maybe that will finally get the left off their asses again — though after Obama their criticism will now have a good deal less credibility.

The heartening news is that Obama is way down in the polls.  The disheartening news is that he doesn’t really have to care about that very much anymore.  He is now unassailably entrenched and, being a sociopath, he doesn’t give a flying fig about what the American people want or need.  He is an empty vessel who never had any intention of fulfilling any his promises.  I suspect he feels utter disdain for the fools that voted for him.  Being a sociopath, I suspect that he finds it nearly as easy to order the killing of a man, his family and his kids, as when he swatted and smashed that fly on his forearm whilst on live TV.  Obama’s job is to charm people just enough so that he can get away with his assigned tasks of cracking down on civil liberties, facilitating the transfer of wealth from the productive to the Wall Street parasites, and spreading chaos and violent anarchy across the planet so that American military power can continue to manipulate the world for Wall Street’s benefit and so they can continue to make Big Bank selling all those WMDs to whatever lunatic proxies the US is hiring these days to fight our ‘enemies’.

He has suffered a couple of major setbacks:  His Syrian Folly was stopped in its tracks — a major and historical achievement as far as I am concerned — and Ed Snowden has been a nightmare.

In spite of that, though, while I don’t have any inside Wall Street connections, I suspect that overall Obama has succeeded beyond their wildest dreams.

I hear that the Cayman Islands love Barack Obama.

It’s time to organize.

Community Organizing

Part One:

The Thunderbolt would like now to touch upon the subject of community organizing; specifically, upon the numerous advantages to be gained in training and maintaining citizen militias.

This was actually the ‘original intent’ of the founders when they wrote the 2nd Amendment; they wanted citizen militias so they could avoid the dangers that are inherent in maintaining a standing army and yet still have an armed and trained force that was ready to rock should a national security need arise.

Gun control advocates sometimes counter this argument by saying the founders couldn’t have imagined the weapons that we now have and that private citizens cannot be trusted with such firepower — even though evidently they feel that the government can be trusted with it.

Another reason the Founders were so fond of the idea of citizen militias is that such militias could effectively counter federal government overreach, and so my response to the power of modern weaponry is to ask so what?  If the Machine has this weaponry then I think that we should have it too.  I would, in fact, love to see a rocket launcher on every block.

Now that we have a president that is claiming legal authority to murder American citizens without a trial, I think the 2nd Amendment is more important than ever.

Many gun control advocates say that citizen militias couldn’t possibly stand up to the might of the United States Army.  My response to that is that the insurgencies in Vietnam, Lebanon, Somalia, Iraq, and Afghanistan would all be very surprised to hear that.  They outlasted the Americans even though they lost every direct battle.  Also, in that case the Americans were killing foreigners.  I think that even with serious brainwashing a lot of American soldiers would have some serious second thoughts about firing upon fellow American citizens.

Citizen militias would only work in a healthy and educated society and only if all members of the militia received intensive training on safely and responsibly handling weapons.  It wouldn’t be realistic to just impose this by legislation or anything like that — but I do think it would be a worthy goal for the future after we clean up some of our other messes.

FYI:  Ironically, Switzerland set up a system based upon the original intent of our 2nd Amendment.  Unless you opt out then every Swiss citizen is required to take two years of military training, and unless you opt out then everyone is thereafter in the Swiss reserves.  I would point out that even though a majority of its citizens are armed, that Switzerland has hardly any crime, violent or otherwise.  I would point out that, in spite of the fact that Switzerland is positioned right in the middle of several of the most notorious imperialistic powers of history, not a single one of those imperialist powers has even ever tried to invade Switzerland for the last several hundred years.

In Russia, on the other hand, they have strictly enforced gun-control laws with stiff penalties for violating these laws.  As a result almost no one except the cops and the soldiers in Russia has guns — yet Russia has a murder rate even higher than ours.

I would also point out that Russia has been invaded by every murderous imperialist power that has ever invaded anything in Eurasia from Genghis Khan on — and NATO is baying at their borders even as I write this.

Most gun control advocates want to pass unconstitutional laws that will not only punish law-abiding people a lot more than criminals — and laws that will do almost nothing to actually solve the problem that is causing all of this — but they want to pass unconstitutional laws that make it much easier for the Machine to track our guns.

Another fact that I wish gun control advocates would take into consideration:  There is nothing like the threat of gun control to unite and motivate the right-wingers.  Any time gun control becomes an issue then millions of Americans grimly chamber a round and then they lay their rifle across their lap as they give you a wordless stony stare.  Sales of guns and ammunition skyrocket.  Donations to the NRA skyrocket.

I don’t know about you, but I really hate it when right-wingers get united and motivated.

In light of all this, I now have a question for gun control advocates:  Do you want to actually reduce gun violence?

In that case, then I have a suggestion:  Rather than passing feel-good laws that will accomplish almost nothing, I would instead try to figure out what it is about our culture that makes it so spectacularly successful at mass-producing murderous psychopaths.  Someone who shoots a bunch of people is not operating in a vacuum.  Our problem is not the guns, our problem is the people.  I truly think that focusing on guns is a counterproductive distraction and I wish the left would stop trying to push this agenda.

We don’t need more laws; we need to heal our culture.

Community Organizing

Part Two:

On a related note, it turns out that after decades of both the Mexican police and the Mexican army completely failing to reign in the Mexican drug gangs, a bunch of ad hoc citizen militia groups made up mostly of merchants and farmers and such have taken matters into their own hands and they are now kicking some major gangster ass!

Then — in a classic example of the leaders following when the people lead — in response to these ‘vigilante’ groups success at kicking gangster ass and in the face of the vigilantes’ refusal of government demands to cease and desist in their administration of said ass-kicking — the Mexican government has suddenly gotten their act together!  They have caught one and killed another head of two of the major Mexican drug cartels!

First they arrested Shorty Guzman, who is the head the Sinaloa Cartel!

Then they killed Nazario Moreno, a man who had managed to combine drug dealing, mass murder, and evangelical Christianity into a totally insane but highly effective Drug Distributing Machine that he called — no shite — the Knights Templar.

As for the arrest of Sr. Guzman, there is a long history of this particular gangster cooperating with law enforcement in order to have them take out his rivals for him and there is much evidence that he has lots and lots of friends in lots and lots of places both very low and very high and there is much speculation that Sr. Guzman’s arrest was bogus…

…and even though I don’t know of anyone else that has gone here yet:  In light of all this and in light of the fact that Sr. Moreno was a serious rival of Sr. Guzman…

…then I am speculating about that too.

There are numerous American jurisdictions that evidently would love to question and prosecute Sr. Guzman, but with Sr. Guzman’s intimate familiarity with the innermost workings of the Great Mexican Corruption Machine…

…it’s a pretty sure bet that Mexican officials are never going to allow the Americans to get within a light year of Sr. Guzman.

Even if his arrest was legitimate.

Especially if his arrest was legitimate.

It’s time to get to work…

Protect the separation of church and state:  We have a local chapter of the nationwide organization Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, and they meet on the third Tuesday evening of each month (except December and perhaps one summer month) at 6:30 pm at the Unitarian church, 2300 East End Street NW (north on Division, left on 20th, right on East End).  Sometimes after convening the meeting decides to move itself to the Pints & Quarts at Capitol Mall, next to the theaters.  Info: Dennis Mansker

1C)  Message from CISPES

Dear Friends and Human Rights Activists,

Many of us who were alive during the 1980s were very involved with the People of El Salvador and we have watched the FMLN transition from a rebel group to the elected political party who has just won re-election in El Salvador this past Sunday, March 9.  (Many who have been born since that time are also aware of the long struggles the Salvadoran people have endured.)  The right wing in that country is trying to reverse the results of this free and fair election.  The people of El Salvador have requested that US citizens and residents contact their US Congressperson and tell them to call to respect for the results of the election.  This is an opportunity for us to make a difference at a time when it counts.  You have more power than you realize.  Please read the information below and contact your congressional representatives ASAP.  It is already starting to make a difference.

2)  Reigning In the Corporations:

2A)  Move to Amend Meeting

Thursday March 20th at 6:30 pm @ Thurston County Courthouse, 2000 Lake Ridge Dr, Building #1 Room 152

These folks are part of the community rights movement in general and reclaiming rights from corporate special interests in particular.  Their very specific goal, in fact, is to amend the Constitution to deprive corporations of constitutional rights.  Yes, corporations are made up of people — and each of those individual people has just as many rights as anyone else — but especially when you equate money with speech for constitutional purposes then your government is now for sale to the highest bidder and when corporations are legal ‘people’ then they are always the highest bidder.

This is from Mike:

Should you attend the next meeting of Olympia-Move-to-Amend?

this might be the best argument i could make for why we need to take action against corporate control of our government.

“A new study sponsored by Nasa’s Goddard Space Flight Center has highlighted the prospect that global industrial civilization could collapse in coming decades due to unsustainable resource exploitation and increasingly unequal wealth distribution.”

you can find the article at:

you are invited!

thursday, March 20th, 6:30pm (people are welcome to arrive anytime between the beginning and the end of the meeting…there is no “late”)

2B)  I-1329 on I-5:  A Green Party Call to Arms!

On a related note, the local Green Party has joined forces with M2A and they want to banner along I-5.  This is a lot of fun, you are working for a vital issue, and you meet really cool people.

From Janet:

Hi Greens — WAMend (Washington Move To Amend) has created this initiative, and we (the local Green Party) voted to support it at the last meeting.  Now we need some people to make it happen!

Mike Savoca, chair of WAMend, and Rod Tharp and others have created FOUR BANNERS, ready to be held above I-5 at intervals of a few miles.  The banners have an unfolding message:

Second banner:  MONEY IS NOT FREE SPEECH

Fourth banner:  PLEASE SIGN I-1329 —

Now the issue is to find people to hold the banners at the overpasses.  Twelve persons are needed, of which we have about six.  Can you lend a hand?  Call Mike if so, 360-951-6518.

Or come to the next meeting of WAMend.  The next meeting is this Thursday, the 20th, at 6:30 PM in Building One at the County Courthouse on Lakeridge.  Mike Savoca says, “Anyone who attends so much as one meeting is a full fledged member with all the rights . . .   We do not ask for, nor do we accept money . . .”

Mike says call him if you have any questions.  360-951-6518

6)  Show up to Oppose Fracking Shipments through the Port of Olympia

Monday March 24th from 5:15 to 7:15 pm @ Tumwater Town Center, 7241 Cleanwater Drive SW

It’s time to show we don’t want fracking materials shipped through our port again.

From Mike:

The Port of Olympia has been importing fracking sand from China for the past couple of years despite a lot of public opposition to the movement of this cargo. The cost of shipping this cargo through the Port of Olympia should incur a surcharge for the sea level rise and impact that will occur as a result of the use of these fracking materials in the Bakken Shale formation. We have elected on commissioner who is likely to take a hard line on this cargo, but it takes two votes from the three commissioners to carry the day, so we need to show up and be heard at the Olympia Port Commissioner Meeting.

7)  SPEECH 24th Annual Meeting

Monday March 24th from 7 to 9 pm @ LOTT Clean Water Alliance, 500 Adams Street NE

SPEECH, who publishes the local Green Pages, is having their annual meeting.
